Warehouse increases light levels and reduces energy.

Situation > The objective of this large distribution warehouse project was energy savings. The customer needed us to increase the light levels, but also drastically reduce energy consumption.

Solution > We changed the 8’ fixture with a white hood to an 8’ fixture with silver reflector, and swapped out the two 8’ T-12 EW lamps for two 4’ T-8 fluorescents. The magnetic ballast was removed and an electronic one was installed in its place. With these changes, the watts per fixture plummeted from 155 to 56, and the CRI improved from 62 to 75.

Benefits of upgrade > Besides bringing up the light quality to a CRI of 75, the energy consumption was slashed by 64%. The financial rewards are reflected in an annual energy savings of $56.40 and a ROI over 50%. These savings are based on 8,760 annual burn hours and a cost of $0.065 kWh; the result is a less than two year payback.
